Welcome to the Suffolk County Sheriff's Office Drone Registration Page

All drone operators must comply with Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) guidelines to ensure public safety and responsible drone use. Use the resources below to register your drone and stay up to date with FAA requirements. To report any suspicious drone activity, please email: SheriffTips@SuffolkCountyNY.gov

Why Do I Need to Register My Drone?

According to FAA regulations, any unmanned aircraft weighing more than 0.55 pounds (250 grams) must be registered before operating outdoors. This helps ensure that drone operators follow airspace rules and maintain safety in our communities. Failure to register your drone can result in civil and criminal penalties, including fines up to $250,000.

Who Needs to Register?

You must register your drone if:

  • You are flying for recreational purposes and your drone weighs more than 0.55 pounds.

  • You are using your drone for commercial purposes under Part 107 rules.

  • You are a public safety agency using drones in your operations.
