DEPUTY ASSAULTED DURING DWI TRAFFIC STOP

Driver Punched and Bit Deputy During Arrest


(Riverhead, NY) On August 12, 2021, at approximately 10:12 p.m., Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office Deputies pulled a driver over for speeding through traffic circle and failing to maintain a lane of travel in Riverhead, NY. Daniela Pintado, 21, of Riverhead, NY, was interviewed and showed signs of intoxication. She was aggressive and volatile, and attempted to walk away when the Deputy was attempting to interview her.

Pintado then physically assaulted the Deputy as he continued to try to interview her. Pintado punched the Deputy in the face. She then bit his index finger, flailed her arms, and kicked the Deputy as he attempted to place her in handcuffs. As a result, the Deputy sustained injuries to his face and right index finger which required him to receive medical treatment at the hospital.


Daniela Pintado was arrested and charged with Assault in the 2nd Degree, Obstructing Governmental Administration in the 2nd Degree, Resisting Arrest, and Driving While Intoxicated.


“I will not tolerate instances of assaults on my staff, whether they occur in the community or in the correctional facilities,” said Sheriff Toulon. “We will seek to have this defendant prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.”
